Fruit flies can appear almost overnight around fruit bowls, sinks, trash bins, and countertops. Because they reproduce quickly, a small number of flies can become a noticeable infestation within days. The most effective way to get rid of fruit flies is to eliminate their breeding sources while trapping the adult flies.

Identify and remove any potential sources that may attract the flies by doing the following:
Make sure dishes are washed on time, and countertops, chopping boards, and sinks are wiped out. The presence of even a little bit of food particles or any other liquid is enough for the flies to get attracted to the place.

After removing breeding sources, use traps to help reduce the number of adult flies remaining. One commonly used homemade trap involves adding a few drops of dish soap to a bowl of apple cider vinegar. The vinegar’s scent can attract fruit flies, while the soap reduces the liquid’s surface tension, making it harder for the flies to escape once they land. Place the trap near sinks, fruit bowls, or other areas where fruit flies are most active. Results may vary, so combining traps with proper sanitation is usually the most effective approach.

To eliminate fruit flies in the kitchen, remove their breeding sites and trap the adults. With consistent cleaning and proper food storage, most fruit fly infestations can be eliminated within a few days and prevented from returning. Source
